Neither prior teaching experience nor knowledge of a foreign language is required. Patience, respect for cultural differences and a desire to help speakers of other languages learn English are the key skills needed. Tutors find their experiences extremely rewarding, and say that they learn as much as, if not more than, they teach. We ask all tutors to commit to one year of service

There are two tutor training sessions annually. Once tutors are trained, they are matched with students, provided with tutoring venues and equipped with all necessary teaching aids and student materials. Tutors receive support and are given continued training throughout the year by the organization.
