Thanksgiving Celebration 2011
One hundred and seventy tutors and students of Literacy Volunteers on the Green celebrated an early Thanksgiving on Tuesday, November 15 at St. John’s Parish Hall in New Milford. Nine students were honored for achieving American citizenship this year: Luis Capelo, Ariosto Cardenas, Luz Cardenas, Manolina Rodrigues Pine, Maria Sanango, and Dora Sorrentino of New Milford, Maria Castro of Danbury, Gilceia DaSilva of Bethel, and Noemi Rojas of Kent. Chief Judge of the Connecticut Appellate Court Alexandra DiPentima, a Literacy Volunteers on the Green tutor, presented the students with their certificates of achievement. Additional students honored included Mery Martins of New Fairfield and Luciana Sacramento of Danbury for Outstanding Achievement; Cindy Zheng of New Milford for Outstanding Determination; and Franklin Cornejo of New Preston for high school graduation.
